Project Overview: A space-themed Metroidvania game developed during the Jame Gam #50 game jam. Players assume the role of a space explorer traveling across the surfaces of cosmic whales to piece together their ancient history. The project combines classic Metroidvania progression mechanics with a unique, self-designed visual style.
My Role: I acted as Lead Developer, Game Designer, and 3D/2D Artist, taking full responsibility for the project’s execution from concept to final build within a one-week timeframe.
Key Technical & Creative Achievements:
Hybrid Visual Style: Successfully blended flat-design aesthetics (created in Inkscape) with 3D low-poly graphics (modeled in Blender) to achieve a distinct artistic vision.
Rapid Prototyping: Leveraged a custom high-performance game starter template developed previously, allowing me to focus entirely on advanced gameplay mechanics and world-building instead of engine boilerplate.
Complex Gameplay Systems: Engineered a classic Metroidvania progression loop, requiring players to master new abilities to unlock further exploration—the most feature-rich title in my gaming portfolio to date.
High-Velocity Delivery: Orchestrated the entire development lifecycle in just 7 days, demonstrating a high level of productivity and the ability to deliver quality results under strict time constraints.
Creative Versatility: Successfully balanced the technical requirements of game programming with creative 3D/2D content production, showcasing a holistic approach to development.
Result: A fully functional, polished game successfully launched as part of a global game jam. The project served as a stress test for our custom development framework, proving its scalability and our ability to maintain high productivity while handling multidisciplinary tasks.
